About Us

The Full Story

Tsinghua THMOS was founded in 2004 at Tsinghua University, China by a group of passionate robotics students. The team name THMOS stands for Tsinghua Multi-Operation System, reflecting our commitment to integrating multiple robotic systems and control architectures. What began as a small student project has grown into one of China's most decorated robotics teams, competing internationally for over 22 years.

From day one, THMOS has been proudly affiliated with Tsinghua University, operating under its world-class engineering and computer science departments. Our goal is to advance innovation and future leaders in robotics and artificial intelligence on a global scale. We believe that success at RoboCup accelerates worldwide robotics development, as key technologies are shared and adopted across borders. Our team is proud to represent Tsinghua University and China internationally.

Thanks to these core values:

Innovation – Pioneering low-latency communication and multi-robot coordination
Excellence – 22+ years of championship-winning performance
Collaboration – Teamwork across engineering, software, and strategy
Global Impact – Advancing autonomous systems for humanity

And our technical excellence:
C++ IPC Architecture – Low-latency, real-time robot communication
Multi-Robot State and Intention Sharing – From local optimality to team-wide coordination
Humanoid Soccer League – Competing since 2004
7 State-Key Laboratories – Access to Tsinghua's world-class research infrastructure

We've achieved these milestones:

2004 – First RoboCup China (Qualified)
2026 – RoboCup China, Adult Large Size – 1st Place (Winner)
2026 – RoboCup China, Medium Size – 3rd Place
2026 – RoboCup China, Small Size – 7th Place (out of 20+ teams)
2026 – RoboCup International, South Korea – Qualified (3,000+ teams)

Our breakthrough year was marked by the migration from Python+ROS2 to C++ IPC architecture, reducing communication latency by over 60% and enabling true multi-robot coordinated decision-making.

Our 200+ alumni have gone on to prestigious roles at leading technology companies (Tencent, Huawei, DJI, Baidu), top universities (MIT, Stanford, Tsinghua, ETH Zurich), and robotics startups and research institutions.

Future Plans:

2026 Goals – Compete at RoboCup 2026 International in Incheon, South Korea (June 30 – July 6). Achieve top rankings among 3,000+ teams from dozens of countries. Continue innovating in low-latency communication and multi-robot systems.

3-5 Year Vision – To be recognized as a global leader in humanoid robotics and a training ground for the next generation of AI and robotics leaders in China and worldwide.

For over 22 years, THMOS has impacted hundreds of students and researchers across China and internationally. We regularly collaborate with universities, research institutions, and industry partners. Where we acknowledge our sponsors through logo placement on team uniforms and robots, social media recognition (WeChat, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram), press releases and media interviews, and photo and video content from international competitions.

We are always seeking partners, sponsors, and passionate members. Support our journey to RoboCup 2026 Korea and beyond.
